Wind energy program blows onto campuses for fall

    DMACC is introducing a wind energy program starting in the fall.     Students can earn an associate of applied science degree by completing the program, called Industrial Electro-Mechanical Technology. The program follows the debut of an introduction to wind energy class, which began this semester.

Stimulus plan increases education funding

    President Obama's economic stimulus package contains steps to help college students pay for tuition, room and board.     The stimulus package, also known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, was approved by Congress and signed by the president on Tuesday.

    DMACC has set a record high in the spring 2009 enrollment.     According to official enrollment figures, more than 1,500 new students have enrolled at DMACC since this same time last year. DMACC's enrollment is 19,889 students.

    The blood drive at DMACC's Ankeny campus collected enough blood to save 129 lives from 41 donors on Friday the 20.     The Blood Center of Iowa collected 39 units of whole blood and four units from the double red machine, said Abby Hausmann, the blood center's mobile marketing specialist.

    Students waiting in line at the ATM on refund day is not an uncommon sight at DMACC.     Refund day is the day students receive their surplus of financial aid after tuition and books have been paid for.     This is extra cash in hand for whatever the student may need it for to continue their education.
